Surah Yaseen, or Surah Ya-sin, is aptly dubbed as the heart of the Quran. In the typical powerfully poetic style of the Quran, the Makki Surah summarizes the message and teachings of Islam in its 83 verses. It is often said that to read Surah Yaseen is to read the whole Quran.

From Ya, Seen to Turjaoon, Surah Yaseen is an undeniably beautiful Surah that will leave you transformed. Beginning from the Haroof-e-muqatta’at, Ya-Sin, the Surah addresses the holy prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam, and explains 11 of the most important Islamic concepts, including the importance of Salah (prayer), Jannah (paradise), and Jahannam (hell).

The recitation of the Holy Quran comes with an abundance of rewards. A popular hadith explaining the benefits of recitation quoted in Al-Tirmidhi states that whoever recites the Quran, gets a ten times reward for every letter they recite.

‘The Messenger of Allah () said: “[Whoever recites a letter] from Allah’s Book, then he receives the reward from it, and the reward of ten the like of it. Al-Tirmidhi 2910

In short, reading the whole of the Quran is beneficial, but some of the Surah’s like Surah Yaseen have special benefits.

Summary of Surah Yaseen

  • Surah Yaseen starts with the Affirmation of Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى that Muhammad ﷺis His Messenger.
  • Then, it is emphasized that the Quran is revealed to warn the disbelievers. It is further narrated that most of them are sinners. Then it is said that only the believers will benefit from the preaching of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
  • The 12th verse narrates that Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى will resurrect the dead, and He has all the record of what the people do in this world.
  • In the next few verses, it is narrated that Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى sent two Prophets to a community and then reinforced with the third, but the people did not follow them. Instead, they said you are just like us and are not sent by Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى.
  • Then it is said that disbelievers often reject Allah’s Messengers. People do forget what happened to the previous communities.
  • The disbelievers remain impassive against the fear of Allah and His Signs. They ridicule the almsgiving and the concept of the resurrection. But they will be surprised on the Day of Judgment, as everyone will be rewarded or disregarded per his deeds in this world.
  • Then, in the 69th and 70th verses, it is emphasized that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is not a poet, and he speaks the words of Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى as revealed upon him in the shape of Quran.
  • After that Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى Tells the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ not to be grieved upon the harsh words of the disbelievers. Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى knows everything well.
  • And then the Surah ends with the praise to Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى, who is the Creator and Raiser of the dead.
