Surah Yaseen, or Surah Ya-sin, is aptly dubbed as the heart of the Quran. In the typical powerfully poetic style of the Quran, the Makki Surah summarizes the message and teachings of Islam in its 83 verses. It is often said that to read Surah Yaseen is to read the whole Quran.

From Ya, Seen to Turjaoon, Surah Yaseen is an undeniably beautiful Surah that will leave you transformed. Beginning from the Haroof-e-muqatta’at, Ya-Sin, the Surah addresses the holy prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam, and explains 11 of the most important Islamic concepts, including the importance of Salah (prayer), Jannah (paradise), and Jahannam (hell).

The recitation of the Holy Quran comes with an abundance of rewards. A popular hadith explaining the benefits of recitation quoted in Al-Tirmidhi states that whoever recites the Quran, gets a ten times reward for every letter they recite.

‘The Messenger of Allah () said: “[Whoever recites a letter] from Allah’s Book, then he receives the reward from it, and the reward of ten the like of it. Al-Tirmidhi 2910

In short, reading the whole of the Quran is beneficial, but some of the Surah’s like Surah Yaseen have special benefits attached to them. Although reading the Surah at any time of the day or night will bring Allah’s reward and mercy, there are certain masnoon times and occasions, which are considered special.

If you want to know when to read Surah Yaseen, here are some of the times that you can read this glorious chapter:

1. After Fajr

‘The Messenger of Allah () said: “Any person who reads Surah Yaseen in the morning will have Allah Almighty on his side for fulfilling his needs.” Al-Darimi 3418

One of the most revered times to read Surah Yaseen is just after the Fajr prayer. Besides the promised reward, it is undoubtedly the best way to start the day right.

We all lead busy lives; but the importance of starting the day right is all the more necessary for it. Modern psychology stresses the importance of healthy morning rituals to ensue high productivity throughout the day, and meditation tops the list of healthy morning rituals.

Therefore, no matter how busy you are, you can read Surah Yaseen in the morning to begin your day on the right note. According to your preference, you can read Surah Yaseen in English, listen to Surah Yaseen audio, or read the Arabic verses. You could even listen to its recitation on your way to work. Having God’s blessings with you as you begin your day is important.

The fact is that you do not know what to expect from the day. This is why you can equip yourself with the recitation of this beautiful Surah. It will ensure that nothing goes wrong, and that God watches over you throughout the day.

2. For Marriage

“Exalted is He who created all pairs – from what the earth grows and from themselves and from that which they do not know.” Surah Yaseen 36:36

Another excellent time to read Surah Yaseen is during the marriage process. Whether you are searching for a spouse, starting your married life, or planning for a wedding, you will always find benefit in this powerful Surah.

Marriage holds significance in Islam; Allah and his prophet advise Muslims to get married to lead a balanced life and to stay away from sin. However, many find it challenging to find the right partner. Surah Yaseen can ease this burden; reciting the ayat (verse) 36 of the Surat daily is said to help you find the right partner.

Only through Allah’s will and blessings can you have a good marriage. You must believe in Allah’s power and the power in HIS word.

3. For & During Pregnancy

Although there are no hasan (authentic) Ahadith for reciting Surah Yaseen for and during pregnancy, ulama throughout time has advised women to recite the Surah as much as possible to conceive and maintain a healthy pregnancy.

Some ulama suggest reading the Surah 7 times daily while others recommend reading it 3 times. Even if you read the surah one time daily, with Allah’s will, it will be beneficial for you and your child.

Modern science has proved that reading to your unborn child in the womb can stimulate brain activity and can even impact their learning, literacy, and development after birth. And what is a more beneficial book then the Quran? Therefore, the recitation of the holy Quran will definitely bring you and your child unlimited benefits.

Pregnancy is a time when you can use all the help you can get, and who could be a better helper than Ya Salamu. He will keep you and your child happy and healthy by removing pain and suffering.

4. For Forgiveness

‘The Messenger of Allah () said: “Whoever recites Surah Yaseen seeking Allah’s approval will find Allah forgiving.” Darimi 3283/A.

If you are burdened by sin and need relief, you must seek forgiveness from Ya Ghaffur by reciting Surah Yaseen. It is only through him can you expect absolution from sins.

When you recite Surah Yaseen in English or Arabic with true intentions of gratifying Allah, you will find Him relenting. You must recite the chapter before going to sleep because it will ensure that you wake up free of sin the next morning.

5. To Ease the Death of a Loved One

‘The Messenger of Allah () said: “Recite surah Yaseen over your dead.” Mishkat al-Masabih 1622 (reported by Ahmad, Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah).

In addition to the above, you should recite Surah Yaseen for someone who is on the brink of death or has recently passed away. It will help ease their death and become a source of bakshish and eesal e sawab (seeking reward for the dead from Allah). This recitation beseeches Allah to pardon their sins and grants them Jannah.

All you have to do is recite Surah Yaseen with the intention of blessing them with its reward. In the Ahl-e-Sunnat Fiqah of Islam, it is a prominent belief that your loved ones wait for you to read the Holy Quran for them to find spiritual help and solace as they pass on to the next world.

Read Surah Yaseen Daily

Whether you read Surah Yaseen after Fajr or at night, the benefits abound. The heart of the Quran is a powerful surah that is beneficial for Muslims in sickness and in health, for happy marriages and healthy pregnancies, for life and in death.

Now that you know the benefits of reading Surah Yaseen, you will be able to take advantage of its recitation. We recommend reading Surah Yaseen every day for its countless blessings and rewards.  Whenever you have time, you can read it, which will also help you memorize it for an even greater reward.
